ISABEL BERGUIDO

Hello, I am Isabel, and I am currently pursing a Master’s degree. My academic interests are centered around genetics, with a particular focus in forensic genetics. 

I am involved in a research project studying gene expression in E. coli with a focus on how sequence features influence protein production at the translation level, including mechanisms such as alternative translation initiation. Through this work, I have gained experience in molecular biology techniques and developed a deeper understanding of gene regulation.

Outside the lab, I enjoy traveling, trying new foods and spending time with friends and family. I also have a strong interest in painting and reading, and I enjoy visiting botanical gardens.

RUDRARUP BOSE

I am a Synthetic Biologist fascinated by how life might have first emerged from the chemistry of the early Earth. My research lies at the intersection of chemical biology, molecular evolution, and soft matter physics, where I explore how simple molecules can self-organise into structures that resemble living systems. I integrate experimental and computational approaches to study coacervation, enzymatic function, and the physical principles that underlie the origins of life.

I completed my undergraduate studies with a major in Life Sciences and a minor in Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in India, followed by a PhD and a short postdoctoral stay at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) in Germany. Originally from India, my scientific journey has taken me across Japan, Italy, Germany, France, and now Spain, each place shaping how I think about science and life.

Beyond the lab, I love to travel—so far, I’ve explored 13 countries—and I find inspiration in discovering new cultures and landscapes. I enjoy biking through scenic trails, savouring local cuisines, and I’m a board game geek.

EVELYN RAINA DANDAURA

Hello, I’m Eve. My academic journey began in medicine before transitioning into the world of research, drawn by the intricate possibilities of structural biology. After earning a medical degree, I pursued a Master’s in Biomedical Research at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where my work centered on protein-protein interactions and biomolecular design. Now as a predoctoral researcher, I am delving deeper into synthetic biology and structural protein systems, exploring their potential in biotechnology and beyond. 

My research sits at the crossroads of biology, medicine, and genomics, driven by a fascination with how molecular design can shape the future of therapeutics. When not immersed in the lab, I enjoy reading, hiking and craft-making, always seeking connections between science and creativity in unexpected places.

IVÁN ALEJANDRO MURGUIA HERNANDEZ

Greetings! My name is Iván, and I’m a senior Molecular Biology student from Mexico, soon to graduate. I was fortunate to discover my passion at the age of fourteen—I’ve always been fascinated by the question of how life began on Earth. I believe that science is not only about the destination, but also about the journey. When we explore a question through research, we often uncover more than what we originally set out to find.

I was part of a gold medal–winning team at the iGEM Design League, the largest synthetic biology competition in Latin America. That experience helped me define my desired research interest, and since then, I’ve pursued opportunities at the intersection of astrobiology and synthetic biology—a combination that I believe is uniquely supported by Romero Romero Labs. 

Outside of academia, I enjoy traveling (I’ve studied abroad in Spain and Taiwan), reading, watching movies, and playing video games.
